Humming about Humanities

Year 7 students share their favourite research assignments of Term One:

In Humanities this term, I enjoyed researching about Sun Tzu and how he was a warrior and when he decapitated a lady to show that he wasn’t kidding. Overall, I really liked humanities and I’m excited to learn more about Ancient Civilisations.

I really like learning about all about ancient times. My favourite session was when we learnt about Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu won all of his battles due to the way he fought the battles. He didn’t charge in and fight. He strategically assassinated people one by one. I can’t wait to continue learning about this next term.

In Humanities I enjoyed learning about the mummification process. It was fun way to learn more about that but everything we’ve done in humanities has been fun and I enjoyed it all.

- Shana R

What l liked in humanities this term was being mummified by everyone in my class and doing some research to know a little bit about Cleopatra. I also liked learning about Otzi the Ice man and solving the mystery tasks about how archaeologists think he died

- Ayisha M

What I liked about humanities is learning about stories from our history and the fact that we are all related and are homo-sapiens. We learned about the extinction Neanderthals. We learned about Sun Tzu and the art of war and how even sports teams use it.  We also know about Mungo man and woman and how they proved how long the Indigenous Australians had been in Australia. The Ancient Chinese used the great wall and Ancient Egypt used the desert as a natural defence to help survive until the ancient Romans took over in 30 B.C.

- Zac W

My favourite thing we did in Humanities this term was when we had the chance to mummify one of our peers. I thought that was very fun and entertaining because most of us got the acting roles we needed to play to make the activity realistic. My role was the student priest and I did a lot of things to bring this moment back to life.

I think my favourite thing I did this term in Humanities was when we wrote our names in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. I liked it because it was cool to see what our names would be in another language back in ancient times. It was fun drawing the story of Otzi the 5000 year old mummified Iceman might have died using archaeological evidence.
