Cultural

Diversity Week

From Monday 19th to Friday 23rd of March, we celebrated Cultural Diversity Week:

This year's Cultural Diversity Week's motto was Proud To Belong. We couldn't have said this in better words. Our school has a diverse cultural environment and we are all Proud To Belong to The Lakes Community. Throughout the week, we saw all year levels taking part in Cultural Diversity Week activities where we all highlighted and celebrate our uniqueness.

The canteen supported the week by creating a special lunch order menu in recognition of our school diversity. All our students who had, pre ordered their special lunch order thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Early Years highlighted the week with an extra special assembly highlighting the diversity in our school. Each year level performed a cultural song or dance and could dress up in clothing from their culture.

Here is what some of the Early Years students had to say about Cultural Diversity Week at The Lakes South Morang P-9 School:

“I liked celebrating all the different countries” Milly R-1C

“I liked learning my Cultural dance because it was fun and I also liked when people clapped for us at the end” Jade P-1A

“We got sit and sing at the assembly” Maddison B- Prep C

“We got to sing a song at assembly” Roy K- Prep C

“I liked that we can celebrate which culture we are from, and I like how we can wear clothes that represent our countries. It made me feel happy that people wore clothes from their culture and we could see their different cultures. Everyone could celebrate where they are from”- Jasmine Y 4A

“I liked the new lunch orders and the songs everyone performed”- Jayden H 3A

“I liked how you could wear the clothes from your culture and we learnt about all different foods and where they are from” Luca G- 2B

This week in Year 5 we have being celebrating Cultural Diversity Week. This means that we have learned a lot of things about other cultures of different people and from different places. We have been colouring different flags we worked on how to show belonging; it was all about people belonging with others and are respected for who they are.
