Year 2 Recounts of Westgarthtown

Year 2 students, Mira, Rubi, Latu, Tanya, Adriana, Diya and Ella share their recounts of the Year 2 trip to Westgarthtown:

Mira

On Wednesday 14th March, me and the Year 2s went to Westgarthtown. I came to school and I went on the school bus. Then I hopped off the bus and there was a man called John. He gave us a tour around the old houses. We played some games in the paddock. I sketched a picture of a tree. Then I went back. We had icy poles. We had so much fun at Westgarthtown.

Rubi

On Wednesday we went to Westgarthtown. First we went to see some old houses. Then we had snack. Then we went to the cemetery. We read the stones. We did sketches of the old houses. Then we played games.

Latu

On Wednesday the Year 2s went in the house. There was lots of old stuff and no one knows why the doorknobs are so low. Then we went on a really long walk. The church was fun but the bad part was that it was shut and we could not go inside. The games were cool.

Tanya

On Wednesday the 14th March the Year 2s went to Westgarthtown, we met a person named John. He told us some facts about Westgarthtown. First my group went inside the house. We got to go in the kitchen. We learnt that the people who lived in the houses had no TVs or iPads. They just had music. After that we played olden day games like the skipping rope or ring toss and beanbag throw. Next we went on a walk to the church. I saw the rainbow window and lots of bugs. We also got to go to the cemetery. I saw lots of grave stones. Before we left we did a sketch of everything we could see. I did a sketch of a rose bush. My friends drew the same thing. At the end of the day when we got back to school we got icy poles.

Adriana

We went to Westgarthtown. We went on the bus to get there. First we went for a walk and saw some old houses. One had been knocked over. The other houses were made out of stone and rock which is different to my house. Next we went back and played some olden day games like skipping. Then we went to a shed which had a model of the farm in it. We saw different tools that were used in the olden days. Then we went in to visit the house with our helper John.

First we went to see the dining room. We saw how people had fun in the olden days. They would entertain themselves by playing piano each night. I got to play on the piano. I played ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’. Next we saw the wood from the ship and it was so big. Then we went to the kitchen and we saw how the girls make butter. We even got to go to the cemetery. I saw a lot of stones. Next we went to the church and had snack. Next we went back and ate our lunch. It was a long walk back. Then we went to do a sketch. Then we went back to school. My favourite part was the sketch because I love to draw.

Diya

On Wednesday the 14th March we went to a place called Westgarthtown. We took a bus to get there. We met a person called John. He told us about Westgarthtown. We looked at the houses. The houses were made of rock. I got to hold the tiny rock. It was so heavy. It was a volcanic rock. We could tell because it had little holes. We went inside the house. Tanya played on the piano. She played ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’. At the end of the song Tanya played the song wrong. We went to the cemetery. The cemetery had lots of grave stones. One belonged to Sophia Ziebell. We stayed there for a little bit. Then we went to the church. We weren’t allowed to go inside. Then we sat down. On the outside of the church we saw a rainbow door.

When we got back we went to the houses. I learnt that when the grown-ups had to go to the toilet they used a bucket.  When we got back to school we watched a movie while having icy poles. Katie wanted the orange icy pole but she got a white icy pole. But she still ate it. There was another icy pole and Liam thought it was orange. We only got to have one icy pole. Liam got an orange one.

Ella

On Wednesday the 14th March, we went on an excursion to Westgarthtown. I learnt that you have to make houses out of rocks and stone and to stick them together you have to mix water, mud and straw. The special ingredient was cow poo and I thought that was so silly. We went in the olden day houses. We went for a walk and saw the old houses and then we went back to school but Westgarthtown was fun. Ajak was going to buy everyone an ice cream but he had forgotten to bring his wallet. We played olden day games. There were skipping ropes and you can play two games like limbo and skipping. My favourite bit was doing the sketch. I sketched a flower bush. My friends sketched the same thing as me. I sat next to Tanya on the bus on the way back.
