Have you ever heard of biomimicry?

SANE share some of their experiences and experiments exploring the concept of biomimicry:

Have you ever heard of biomimicry?

It is using nature to inspire design. For example, did you know Velcro was designed after a Swiss engineer was taking his dog for a walk and he noticed burrs stuck to his dog’s fur.  When he looked under a microscope he saw tiny hooks all over the burr. This gave him the idea for Velcro.

We have been developing some ideas using biomimicry to develop our own designs.

For example: Shoes that can run on water like the Basilisk Lizard. A camo cloth that matches its surroundings inspired by a chameleon’s skin. Glasses for the visually impaired that map out the environment using echolocation inspired by bats.
