1/2 Incursion on Thursday 22 August 2019 – The Travelling Kitchen!

Rooms 19, 20, 21 and 22 had the chance to take part in a cooking incursion as part of their Inquiry unit on ‘Growing Healthy’.  The day began with students walking into their classroom and being presented with an apron for the session. The instructors then explained the workshop and went through every ingredient that would go into the vegetable burgers. We then went to our workstations where there was a hat with our name on it and we wore that for the activity.

After we cleaned our hands, we began cooking. We had to cut spring onions with Kiddie Kutter knives and grate potatoes, carrots and zucchinis. The potatoes and carrots were really hard! We all got turns mixing in the flour and spice, vegetables and also corn and eggs. The instructor went through each ingredient and explained what it does to our bodies when we eat it, for example, potatoes have carbs which can help us run we learnt.  When we were done, the instructor made veggie burgers out of the mixture in frying pans in our classroom! The burgers were put into buns with lettuce and tomato (we had cheese if we wanted it) and then we got to eat the burgers.  They were yummy! The hardest part about the day was the delicious smells in the room that stayed there all day and a bit the next day as well. It’s so amazing that simple things like carrots and eggs make such a difference to our brains and bodies.

We hope the Travelling Kitchen comes back to us again soon!

Book Fair

3rd - 6th September 2019

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

  • Set the example. Let children see you read.
  • Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
  • Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Dino-Mite, where we hope you will Stomp, Chomp, and Read! A fun reading event brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It is a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair dates:         Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 September, 2019

Shopping hours:        Library open until 4.30pm every day

Special activities:  Open night will be Thursday 5 September from 6.00pm to 7.30pm

We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
