Principal's Notes

Week 4

Dear Parents and Families,

The school has been very busy practising for our upcoming Picnic Sports and Athletics Carnival at Pedrina Park (Year 3-6 only).  We have been very fortunate in past years to have had lots of support from our families attending our Picnic Sports. Our students love having their families watch them compete in events and it is a day that we can enjoy being together as a community.

Cavendish Primary School are not only part of the school community but we are part of our local Cavendish community. Next Thursday afternoon, we are participating in the Clean Up Australia event which helps tidy our own community backyard. This is supported by the local Shire of Southern Grampians and supplies gloves and bags to us.  A School Clean Up is a great way to inspire our students to learn about the impact of rubbish on their local environment while playing an active role in their community. We will be cleaning up around the fence line of the school and going down to the local parks near the hall.

SGSSA Swimming

Well done to Addison Nettleton and Holly Lewis who competed against students from other district schools today at the Dunkeld Swimming Pool.  Holly came 3rd in 50m backstroke and Addison came 3rd in the 50m breaststroke. The girls also came second in the relay event with Millie McShane and Phoebe Ross from Dunkeld.

Congratulations girls on having a go and giving it your best.

Blitz

This week we are focusing on using our manners every day at school. We can show our good manners by -

  • being prepared to wait your turn
  • saying, 'Please',  'Thank you',  'Excuse me'
  • sharing fairly
  • holding doors open
  • looking at people when speaking or listening

Tutoring Learning Support

Mrs Bell is working each Tuesday and Thursday morning with students who have been identified through our 2021 teacher judgements, classroom observations and end of year assessments. This program will be ongoing for the remainder of the year allowing both extension and catch up of students academic needs. If your child has not been included in the first intake, it does not necessarily mean that they will not be. This a flexible timetable and is adjusted according to student needs.

Picnic Sports

Our Picnic Sports are set for next Friday 4th March.  Parents, keep practising in readiness for the highly competitive gumboot toss!  A note and program is attached below.

Have a lovely weekend,
