Education in Faith

Faith, Family, Friendship

At Holy Spirit, we respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri people and their Elders past and present, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Holy Spirit Community School is located.

A Prayer for Eucharist

We pray for our Eucharist Candidates, as they prepare for this important step in their faith journey, where they will receive Holy Communion, the body of Jesus for the first time.

A reading from the Acts of the

Apostles 2:42-47

All those who believed were equal and held everything in common.

The followers of Jesus spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread

and prayed together. Everyone was amazed at the many miracles and wonders that the apostles worked. All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they share everything they had. They  would sell their possessions and give their money to  whoever needed it. Day after day they met  together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their  food happily and freely while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved.

The word of the Lord.

Loving God,

Have mercy on all people.

Help us to listen when you call us.

Give us courage to do what you ask.

Keep us close to your heart.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who made their Sacrament of Confirmation last term. We are so proud of you.

RE Learning in Term Three

Our students will be investigating the following questions through their RE learning this term:

  • Prep - Who do we have a responsibility to care for?
  • 1/2 - How are we connected to our environment?
  • 3/4 - How are we responsible for looking after the world we live in?
  • 5/6 - How can we be stewards of our world and our future?

PARISH NEWS

Welcome back to Term 3.  This coming weekend we have our First Eucharist masses for our Grade 4 children at Saturday 6pm and Sunday 9am and 5pm.  The last of the masses will be held the following Saturday 29th July.  All masses will be held in the Church.  Please pray for these children, their families and teachers over the coming weeks.  Congratulations to all the children on this next step in their faith journey.

An important note regarding Communion.  As of the weekend of 4th/5th August, we will be resuming communion under both kinds, both the bread and the wine.  If anyone is interested in being a Minister of Communion, please contact the Parish House.  You will need to have a current WWCC, signed a Code of Conduct (copies available at the Parish House) and completed safeguarding training.

A Mass of Anointing will be held on Wednesday 9th August at 11 am in the Church followed by a light lunch.  If you or you know anyone that may be interested, please contact the Parish House as we do need to know numbers for catering purposes.  Alternatively, there is a sign-up sheet in the foyer of the Church.

The Parish will be running an ALPHA program starting Saturday 6th August at 7pm in the Mary Bresnan Room.  This will be a wine and cheese supper with discussion about the topic “Is there more to life than this?”  ALPHA is an opportunity to come and discuss big questions.  It’s a time where you can think about these things, listen to other and discuss your own thoughts.  There is no cost so what have you got to lose.  Registrations via https://holyspiritparish.orog.au/alpha  For further information contact Maryann on 0429 876 434 or Kerry on 0407 764 302.

A forum on the “Voice to Parliament” referendum will be held at St John’s Church, Mitcham on Sunday 6th August from 12 noon till about 2.30 pm.  A light lunch will be provided.  It will be presented by Dr Heather Wearne, a retired academic from tertiary and secondary education and has experience with Indigenous issues.  No need to book, just turn up if you are interested.

Holy Spirit is a child safe parish.  We hold the care, safety and well being of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our Parish.
