Junior Sport

Last Friday, the Junior School Swimming Squad competed in the BPSSA Swimming Carnival at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview. This was the first representative carnival for the year and the bus ride was awash with excitement and enthusiasm for the day. The boys swam well throughout the day, powering through the water. Many ribbons were won on the day, and overall, it was a very successful carnival. A big thank you to Mr Cooper for driving the bus and taking on the role of place judge. We look forward to hearing how the boys go at the IPSHA Carnival.

The College provides many opportunities for the boys to take on and excel in. Even with all the opportunities available to our students, there are always more for the boys to do outside the offerings of the College. It is always great to hear all the different things the boys are doing in their own time and how they are excelling. I would like to celebrate the efforts of Archie and Charlie Ackland (Year 5) and Dante Barbanera (Year 5). Archie and Charlie competed for Balmain in the Regional Championships Little Athletics NSW carnivals. Both boys performed well setting Personal Bests in the 1500m and 800m. Charlie also went on to compete in the triple jump, narrowly missing his Personal Best by a matter of centimetres. Dante competed in the Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships, where he won a Bronze Medal. Dante is currently ranked 18th in the world on the Smoothcomp platform for Juvenile Gi (grey and yellow belts). A wonderful achievement! On behalf of the St Patrick’s community, I would like to congratulate these boys on their achievements, and we look forward to hearing of their future success.

A reminder to parents and boys to check the Junior School Fixtures page towards the end of each week. This page will have the most up to date fixture information for the Junior School on it. This week, we have some significant changes to the draft in Tennis and Cricket. Please make sure you are aware of the times and venues for games this weekend.

Fingers crossed the weather gives us a break this weekend and we can have all teams get out and play. I will announce any cancellations to fixtures as soon as the information comes to hand, via Team app notifications. If you are yet to sign up to Team app, please see the instructions on how to do so in my Week 2 Especean article.
