Reflection
This upcoming Sunday the church will celebrate the feast of the Ascension. This marks the end of Jesus' life on earth in flesh and blood but the beginning of his new life with us in spirit. On this day he tells the disciples not to be sad about his going away but to look forward to the gift of the Holy Spirit.
One person of great spirit was Father Ted Kennedy. He devoted himself to the aboriginal community in Redfern, an inner Sydney suburb. He understood their gifts and recognised their goodness. He opened his home to them and set up a medical service in the back part of the parish church.
Until he died in 2005, Father Ted lived his belief that Christ was to be found in the lives of the poor. Perhaps Father Ted will be a future saint for Australia.
Prayer - Ascension
Lord God,
you give us great joy
as we celebrate
the feast of the ascension of your Son, Jesus.
Make us witnesses to his gospel,
and may we always seek his presence
here among us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

First Holy Communion
We have four students who will be receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday 11th June at St Patrick's Church. The preparation program will commence this upcoming Monday 22nd May. Our thoughts and prayers are with these students as they develop their understanding and appreciation of how we remember the teachings and sacrifice of Jesus Christ through this sacrament.
Thursday 25 May 2023 Armidale Diocese Catholic Schools Week Deanery Mass
Catholic Schools Week is fast approaching and as part of this celebration of Catholic schools in the Armidale Diocese, all schools in our deanery will be celebrating Mass at the cathedral on Thursday 26th May commencing at 11.00am. It will be a very busy day indeed as our Years 3-6 Choir will be competing at the Armidale Eisteddfod at 10.00am and straight after that they will be heading to the cathedral to take part in this celebration. Notes were sent home earlier this week via Compass. It would be great if all permissions are completed by Tuesday 23rd May.

2023 First Reconciliation: Date has been set for our Catholic students in Years 2 and 3 for Friday 20th October 2023.
2023 First Eucharist: Date has been set for our Catholic students in Year 3 for Sunday 11th June 2023.
2023 Confirmation: Date has been set for our Catholic students in Years 5 and 6 for Sunday 5th November 2023.
