Year 7/8 Boys Football Report
On Thursday June 2, a combined Year 7 and 8 Boys Football Team represented the College at the Whittlesea Division Competition at Epping Football Ground. The boys showed incredible sportsmanship and really demonstrated The Lakes Values of Leadership and Respect.
The Lakes side performed admirably coming away with 2 hard fought wins against Mernda Central College and Epping Secondary and were very competitive in close losses to Whittlesea Secondary and Hazelglen College. This performance was made even more impressive by the fact that the side was undermanned and was hit by some injuries during the day.
All the boys contributed to what was a great team performance however special mentions go to Jasper T who played in a number of key positions during the day, Stefan P who took on the Ruck role, a position he wasn’t initially going to play and won the ball for the team in a number of important contests, Massimo G and Mason O who, even with low rotations on the bench ran through the midfield all day and Jake who was solid in defence, often against much taller opponents. A highlight was Jake B’s fend off and goal from the boundary line, an act that Dustin Martin would have approved of. It was certainly an inspiration for the team.
Special thanks go to Brock C, Toby L & Declan L for their assistance on the day. They were an outstanding support to their coach Cam by making positional changes, running messages and helping out with goal umpiring.
It was a pleasure to take the boys out to represent our College.

Year 7 & 8 Netball
By Kianah S
The Year 7 & 8 netball teams had a great time, from the amazing trainings session to competing against the other schools we played against in the Whittlesea division competition. When we first got the team together we had a fun time training with the Year 9/10 team. We were being challenged against them and I feel we really improved in that period of training. After the 9/10 team left to play their netball games we started training with the Year 7 team. The Year 7 team tried really hard and worked really well together to train against us and they learnt a lot during our group training sessions.
On the day of the tournament we set off on the bus with high hope for all of our games. We made it to the courts in Diamond Creek started to warm up and set up for our games; what positions each of us were going to play and who the subs were. We talked about our tactics, trying to remember everything we learnt in training and being ready to apply it to our game. We had high hopes and set off to our first game we all played amazing and we kept trying all day.
On the day we had some great moments especially in our last game. We were all encouraging each other. We had people trying so hard they fell over! Everyone made sure they were all ok. Before we could even imagine we were playing our last game, it was very close, both teams scoring heaps of goals, then the final buzzer went off and we had won! We had great communication in that game and made sure everyone got their fair share of the ball. In our games before that we didn’t have very good communication, we built it up over the games and I think we can take it into future Years to make sure we work on our communication.
Feeling great and exited to see how our football team went, we got on the bus and made our way back to school.
Overall it was a great experience, the only thing I wish we could change would be to go out for Netball more often. All of the girls involved enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to winter sport next Year!
Year 9 & 10 Netball
By Sarah
On Thursday the 26th of May a deterministic group of Year 9/10 girls were selected to represent The Lakes South Morang College at the Whittlesea District Year 9/10 Interschool Netball competition held at Nillumbik Force Netball Association.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the girls competed to the best of their abilities. Losing two games by only a few points, drawing the next and finishing it off with a win. The combination of outstanding teamwork from the girls in Year 9 and Year 10 lead them to perform better each game, as they represented our school’s values of Leadership and Teamwork.
Special recognition goes to co-captions Chloe H (Yr9) and Sarah B (Yr10), who showed incredible skill and lots of encouragement towards the team both on and off the court. A big thank you to their coach Christine for supporting our girls in the lead up to the day and throughout the whole day.
