PALM SUNDAY - HOLY THURSDAY - GOOD FRIDAY

Easter is the pinnacle of the Church's calendar. We begin celebrating Holy Week this upcoming Sunday. It begins with Palm Sunday when Jesus had a triumphant arrival in Jerusalem. We celebrate the Last Supper on Thursday followed by Jesus cruxification on Good Friday. The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday is on the 14th April and is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. The Last Supper was the final meal Jesus shared with his Disciples in Jerusalem. He broke bread and drank wine, as we do in Mass and washed the Disciples feet.

Good Friday

Good Friday is on the 15th April. It is the day Jesus Christ was crucified; nailed to a Cross and died. He was flogged, tormented, ridiculed and crowned with thorns. He carried his cross to Calvary, was then nailed to the cross and crucified. The events that led to Jesus’ Crucifixion are known in the Stations of the Cross.  Following the incredible events of the day, the body of Christ was removed from the cross and laid in a donated tomb, buried according to custom.

Prayer - Holy Week

Gracious God,

You have heard the cries of your people.

You have sent Jesus to us to be our redeemer.

Open our eyes to see the immensity of your love for us and the wonder of what you have done for us.

Give us the courage to be your hands and heart for those who need us.

Give us the wisdom to speak out for justice and righteousness.

May your will be done in us today and always.

Amen

First Reconciliation

Congratulations to Florence, Ellody, Benji, Rebee, Adelaide, Katie, Lochie and Claire who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last Friday. Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who celebrated Mass with us as well as staying for our Reconciliation, ceremony, it is very much appreciated from Mons and myself. Adelaide, Katie, Lochie, Grace S and Claire will very soon started their preparations to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time on Sunday 19th June.

Good Friday Liturgy

Even though Good Friday this year is in the school holidays, each class will be taking in a Good Friday Liturgy in their classrooms straight after recess before the Easter Hat Parade. As mentioned in previous editions of the newsletter, this was meant to be taking place in the library as part of our whole school assembly. Unfortunately due to the new safety measures as directed by the Catholic Schools Office, we are unable to do this in a whole school setting. Once each class has taken part in their liturgy, the Easter Hat Parade will commence under the COLA. Please feel free to join us at the parade.

Sacrament Dates for 2022

2022 First Eucharist Date has been set for our Catholic students in Year 3 for Sunday 19th June 2022.

CARITAS-Project Compassion

This Lent, let us consider how we can ensure that we work ‘for all future generations' around the world.

Together, we can make a difference now, and For All Future Generations.

FEATURE STORIES

Across the six weeks of Lent, CARITAS share stories of resilient people trying to ‘be more’ for their families and communities. Read their inspiring tales, and see how your generosity makes a difference.

Project Compassion Boxes

We are encouraged during Lent to give greater attention to those who might be in need. One way we are able to do this is by supporting Project Compassion over the forty days of Lent by making monetary contributions (big or small) to these boxes.

Please return your Project Compassion Boxes to school during the first week of next term.
