Science

A selection of Year 10 students took part in the Rotary Science Challenge on Thursday 7 March. The challenge was presented by The University of Newcastle in cooperation with Charles Sturt University, Riverina Water County Council and Rotary Clubs of Wagga Wagga. We thank these organisations for their help and guidance on the day.

Students were given the opportunity to work alongside other Riverina students to design and build a range of structures including bridges, electricity distribution systems, earthquake proof buildings and bionic hands. These structures and projects were judged on the day. Our Year 10 students came third. Thanks to those students who participated and represented Mater Dei so well.

We are just about to finish our first topics of term two in junior classes at the moment. Year 7 are completing a topic on Solids, Liquids and Gases. Year 8 are looking at Body Systems. Year 9 are studying Tectonic Plates and Year 10 are working on the first of two Chemistry topics this year. Quizzes are completed at the end of each topic. These results are available on Canvas.

Our Year 11 students just about to start their science Depth Studies. Depth Studies are any type of investigation/activity that a student completes individually or collaboratively that allows the further development of one or more concepts found within the syllabus. These studies are a new mandatory part of the new Science syllabuses.

Year 12 students have assignments and practical activities to complete throughout this term in all their Science subjects. They will then start to prepare for HSC Trial Exams early next term.
