Yuroke Youth Advisory Council

March Meeting

This year’s first Youth Advisory Council meeting kicked off last week. Ros Spence MP Chaired the meeting.  Their first discussion centred around the previous work of the Youth Advisory Council – including campaigns around violence prevention and mental health.

Ros spoke about this year’s topic: youth employment. The topic was nominated by 2017 Youth Advisory Council members following discussions with Ministers and their peers in the local community.

Craigieburn Secondary College has two year 12 students that were selected to be a part of this council, Uaita Faasootauloa and Shyniya Chandra.

Members were invited to discuss their experiences with employment related issues before nominating potential guest speakers to join their meetings over 2018, including industry representatives, elected federal and local officials, and experts in superannuation and industrial rights.

Members also began planning their central activity for 2018 – a youth employment forum featuring The Hon. Ben Carroll MP, Minister for Industry and Employment Minister.

This forum will not only provide a useful resource for the broader community, but will also give members valuable experience in leadership and project management.
