President's Report

As we embark upon a new term, I hope you had opportunity for a rejuvenating and enjoyable break.  Your dedication to your school, respective communities and the system as a whole is truly commendable and whilst we hope you approach the term with renewed energy and enthusiasm, we are all aware of the challenges that lie ahead.

Teacher recruitment and retention will be an ongoing challenge as will be the need to address the mental health and wellbeing of students and staff.  Promoting diversity, equity and inclusion will continue to be a priority however we know that it can be challenging to create inclusive environments that cater to the needs of all students and without a full staffing workforce.

Yet, we also know that despite facing a complex landscape of challenges, the unwavering commitment and determination of our school leaders ensures the sound management of schools and the delivery of quality education.

I encourage you all to gift yourself a day away from the demands and challenges of your role, by attending our upcoming seminar in late October which focusses on Leading with Hope & Optimism.  When leaders convey a sense of hope in themselves and others, they motivate individuals and teams to tackle challenges with enthusiasm and creativity.  Optimism generates a can-do attitude that fuels innovation and problem-solving. Moreover, hopeful and optimistic leaders build trust and boost morale by supporting others to see opportunities amid adversity.  We have a great array of keynote speakers from a range of backgrounds and the day will provide opportunity for collegiate interactions, engagement and learning opportunities.

Members have received a direct send of the program and we encourage leadership teams to attend.  You will find information about the day, including a list of speakers and registration form included in the newsletter.

The political landscape in Victoria has seen several leadership and portfolio changes and we extend our congratulations and welcome to the new Deputy Premier and Minister for Education the Hon. Ben Carroll. We look forward to engaging with Minister Carroll for the betterment and growth of our schools, and in particular our school leaders.

We also take opportunity to extend our thanks to the outgoing Minister for Education, Natalie Hutchins.  Minister Hutchins has engaged openly and forthrightly on the issues facing schools and in particular matters pertaining to the  principal class. We wish her all the best for future endeavours and in particular her new role as Minister for Jobs and Industry.

Best wishes for the term ahead and remember to reach out if you are in need of advice, advocacy or support.
