Great Vic Bike Ride 2019

Great Victorian Bike Ride

Welcome to the 2019 Great Victorian Bike Ride, or more commonly known as the Great Vic. This year, we had a team of 20 students ranging from Years 8 through to Year 12 with the help and support of 6 legendary parents and 3 eager staff. This year’s ride, a ten-day cycling and camping adventure, involved a ride which had us start in Robe in SA and took us along the beautiful coastal and forest landscapes long the Limestone Coast, the Great Ocean Road and through the Great Otway National Park, finishing in Torquay. For the ten days, we literally eat, sleep, ride and repeat.

The Great Vic offers students the opportunity to mix with people of all ages and walks of life. Students gain a sense of achievement, improved self-esteem and social skills, and awareness of the benefits of physical activity and improved on-road cycling skills from participating in the ride. The Great Vic is the ultimate school camp.

Every student that came along on the ride demonstrated Sandringham College’s core school values of integrity, respect, excellence and community. The students gained a strong sense of achievement after what was a challenging yet rewarding experience.

For the teachers, it enabled us to develop a strong rapport with the kids. We couldn’t be happier with how each student conducted themselves over the ten grueling days, through the wind and rain, to sunshine, not to mention the early morning starts, where we were all up before dawn.

Thank you to all those involved in the 2019 Great Vic Bike Ride. You made it one to remember. Bring on the 2020 Great Vic for another nine days of camaraderie, camping and cycling along Australia’s greatest outdoor art gallery – the Art Silos and The Grampians.
