Student Wellbeing

New member of the Student Wellbeing Team

My name is Gulzabeen Mohammed and I am the newest member of Sandringham College’s Student Wellbeing Team. I am a Psychologist by profession and have been hired at Sandringham College as part of the Department of Education’s Mental Health Practitioner Initiative. I commenced at Sandringham College at the beginning of Term 4, and have found everyone here to be incredibly welcoming and supportive as I assimilate into the college’s community.

I have been a Registered Psychologist for approximately 13 years and maintain an interest in a number of areas of psychology and counselling including mood issues such as anxiety and depression, working with children and their parents to address a variety of developmental and behavioural concerns, grief, loss and adjustment, trauma and abuse amongst others.

As part of the student wellbeing team at Sandringham College I will be working in a variety of capacities including provision of counselling and other early intervention services; coordinating supports for students with critical needs, and enhancing mental health promotion and prevention activities in the school to assist in increasing mental health literacy college wide.

I operate on an open door policy and would welcome you to contact your relevant student manager to arrange a time for us to discuss how together we can facilitate positive mental health for staff and students  I wish all of you and your families a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to becoming an ingrained part of the community of Sandringham College in 2020.

Bluff 7-9 News

As Student Wellbeing Coordinator for Years 7-9 probably one of the most common questions I'm asked is - "why can't my child make friends"? As parents we want our children to be happy and fulfilled, when they struggle to build relationships with their peers we suffer right along with them. I came across this article by Linda Stade, an education writer, speaker and consultant in Western Australia, Linda has worked in various teaching and management roles in education for twenty-eight years. This article gives some great tips around what to discuss with your child, when they are finding it hard t make friends.
