Indigenous Education

Book Swap Day

In the last week of Term 3, we held our book swap day, to raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Thankyou to all the book donations we received as well as the money donations as well!

We raised $85! The money raised will help provide books to children in remote and rural Indigenous communities.

New Books

Thanks to everyone for your involvement with the Scholastic Book Fair. From having the book fair, we were lucky enough to receive some book rewards through Scholastic and managed to expand our Indigenous resources at St Josephs. Thanks to the amazing Mrs Hendricks, we have purchased the following book titles that will be located within our library shortly.

Bedtime stories

From the 21st-25th of November, Common ground (a First Nations-led not-for-profit) work with different First Nations communities, every year, to film five non-secret Dreaming stories. The films are shared online, and people come together to watch them over five days.

Dreaming stories are sacred, and have played a central role in First Nations cultures since time immemorial. They are the foundation of First Nations ways of thinking, being and knowing. They carry knowledge and Law, and teach us how to care for Country.

As a school we will be engaging with these stories during the week of the 21st-25th November and exploring the importance of dreamtime stories.
