7-9 Teaching and Learning
Ms Vivienne McElwee, Head of 7-9 Campus
As we approach the end to another challenging term, I would like to thank you for your patience, positive feedback and support once again this term. We are so proud of how hard our students have worked to try and stay engaged and submit their tasks, despite the many difficulties that they are sometimes facing. Just a reminder to keep using a Growth Mindset and never give up. Keep striving for excellence and feel proud of every achievement that you make, regardless of how big or small that may be. Learning does not only occur in the classroom.
Don't forget that our online Parent teacher interviews are held:
Please remember that these meetings with teachers go for 5 minutes in duration. Please assist us with staying on schedule and understand if teachers need to cut off the conversation at the 5 minutes mark in order to accommodate all of their appointments.
In response to our recent surveys and online parent forum, we have made some exciting adjustments to our weekly online program for term four:

*NEW ADDITION
| Every class will have a single period each week allocated as a Home Room/check-in
This will involve wellbeing and collaboration activities run by the teacher and wellbeing team. |
Year 7 & 8 Sport replacement
*NEW ADDITION | Weekly opt-in activities: Year 7 Tuesday period 5&6
Year 8 Friday period 5&6
|
We have introduced a Home Room/Wellbeing session each week, lead by a teacher who is familiar with the class. This session will occur each week and include a chance to "check-in", complete fun activities and participate in wellbeing sessions, facilitated by our Wellbeing team. This session will replace one of the cancelled classes (grey) in the student's timetable. Attendance is compulsory for students.
We would also like all year 7 and 8 students to maximise the opportunity to participate in either an extension Maths/Science or English/Literature class, Art Club or Fitness session in place of weekly Interschool Sport. This is an opt-in program for students to work with others, gain new skills and extend their creativity beyond the classroom.
Homework Club will resume and now be called "Study Centre" . This will take place every Wednesday afternoon from 3pm to 4pm and be supported by some of our wonderful staff. Students can opt-in and opt-out of the session to receive support with their learning or even just collaborate with other students.
We hope that these changes will engage and support our students with both their wellbeing and learning.
I hope that you enjoy a well deserved break from the demands that online learning brings on families. Try to keep in mind that if everyone in your family is in good health and generally doing well, you’re winning.
