Principal's report

Dear Parents, Carers, Students and MPWPS Community members,

As you know, we are on the home stretch and into the final week of term. It is Planning Week for most of the Year Levels and so your children will be involved in a whole day of specialist programs one day this week.

Whilst we are winding down to a well-earned holiday and rest, it is important to keep our children’s routines as it is when they are tired, drained and less resilient that routines matter most. Children often fear the unknown – whether it’s the broccoli on their plate – or a big life change like moving to a different house or gaining a new sibling.

While change is a learning opportunity, it can also be stressful for children. A normal routine brings comfort and consistency to a child’s life. Daily routines might include:

  • The time to get ready in the morning
  • Bath times, mealtimes, nap times and bedtimes
  • Housework, cooking and cleaning schedules
  • Play time, family time and outdoor play

When you include meaningful and important elements into your family life, you’re letting your child know what’s important. Consistent routine will help your child and their “body clocks” with many day-to-day basics such as:

  • Ability to take naps and sleep well at night
  • Ability to eat healthy, full meals
  • Regular bowel movements
  • Healthy play and outdoor time
  • Calm, relaxed behaviour at “down times” during the day

For example, because your child and their body know it’s time to sleep, they are more easily able to wind down and rest.

I encourage all families to keep to routines this week and over the holidays to ensure the best start to Term 2.

I wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to having all children well-rested and ready to learn in a little over two week’s time.

Early Dismissal

Just a reminder to all families that students will be dismissed from their classrooms at 2.30 on Friday 5th of April, 2019. Please ensure students are picked up promptly from school at this time or you can organise after school care.

Kerri’s Return

As you know, Kerri and Jarrod (Leading Teacher) were at an EXPO in Brooklyn NYC focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

 

It is great to welcome them back this afternoon and we can’t wait to hear about the wonderful things they have seen and learned about that could be used back at Moonee Ponds West!
