From the Head of Sport

Welcome back to all students and families for the final term of sport for 2020. What a year it has been! There was a big chance that sport was not going to exist at all for the majority of this year and despite some disappointments along the way with cancellations, we really need to be thankful for the opportunities we have had. Bring on 2021!!

With the conclusion of AIC Track and Field last weekend, we know there will be a welcome sense of relief to have a “quieter” term for a change. That being said we still have a couple of events on and will be commencing preparation for our 2021 Term 1 sports with cricket, volleyball, and AFL pre-season programs beginning.

To wrap up 2020, we will have one-day carnivals for AIC Water polo (Sunday 1 November ) and AIC Golf (Monday 26 October).

Water Polo – a sign-on link will be sent to students via email and boys will need to contact Mr Apps if they wish to be involved. There are 3 teams involved à Year 7, 8/9, 10/11.

Golf – only one team of 5 boys from the entire college is selected. Mr Fogarty will be organising our AIC golf team so please contact him if you are interested.

TRACK & FIELD – 6TH AIC CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW!

Congratulations to the 2020 Track and Field squad on yet another exceptional performance in winning the AIC Championships for the 6th time in a row!

This victory will undoubtedly go down as one of the more memorable ones with injury preventing several of our top athletes from competing this year and many boys unable to train until the last minute. It certainly was a struggle at times to get a fully fit team ready for this year’s competition but in true MCA fashion, we had boys step up and perform exceptionally well to get the team across the line once more.

PLEASE SEE THE TRACK & FIELD SECTION IN THIS NEWSLETTER FOR MORE DETAILS

Over the course of the season, before and after school, there is an enormous amount of time and effort devoted to the preparation of our athletes. With a commitment to holiday training.

The contribution of each coach was significant in achieving the final result and we thank the following staff for playing a role in achieving our victory:

Mr John Lambourne, Mr Rob Martin, Mr Brett Leavy, Mr Simon Price, Mr Paul Kearney, Mr Laurie Boustead, Ms Ellie Kenny, Mr Shane Ward, Mr Calum Mackay, Mr Josh Mulligan, Mr Andrew Fogarty, Mr Des Davis, Mr Eric Brown, Mr Dan Golubovic and Mr Chris Wilson.

2020 PRESEASON PREPARATIONS

Very soon our organisation of next year’s cricket and volleyball programs will begin as well as the commencement of training for our Open football and rugby squads. This will create a very busy term for any students involved and communication between coaches and students is very important.

TRIALS FOR TERM 1 SPORT

As usual, following the typical whirlwind finish to the sporting year we move quickly into organising the 2021 cricket, volleyball and AFL seasons. Some sports have already commenced trials however next week will see greater teams participating in trials. All information can be found in the specific sport sections of the newsletter and on the College App.
