Learning and Teaching

This week we acknowledged Food Allergy Week at St Louis to support the many children and families who deal with allergies in our school and the wider community. The aim of the week is to raise awareness of food allergy including those that are potentially fatal.

Did you know, any food can trigger an allergic reaction and there are more than 170 foods reported to have caused a severe reaction? However, there are ten foods that cause 90 per cent of reactions. These are peanuts, tree nuts (e.g. almonds, walnuts, cashews), egg, cow’s milk, sesame, fish, shellfish (e.g. oysters, prawns), soy, wheat and lupin.

At school we can support our students with allergies in the following way -

We greatly appreciate the support of all St Louis' families of our students with allergies. Our risk minimisation approach includes asking families to refrain from sending foods to school, where a child in a particular class has an anaphylactic reaction to any of these food allergens.  Thank you for your cooperation.
