Principal's Report

“Time is a created thing. To say “I don’t have time” is to say “I don’t want to “.  Lao Tzu

We all have moments in our lives that we allow to be dictated by the concept of time. We have deadlines, commitments, responsibilities and expectations. How do we manage all of this and have time for children, family, friends and social events? We do so by determining what is most important at any given time and setting that as our priority. As parents, we need to be mindful of how we have conversations about time with our children. Each time we say “I don’t have time” they hear “I don’t want to”. An alternative would be to say, “Once I finish my work/meeting/dinner … we can have a chat”.  This is an opportunity to think about time in a less constraining way and take control of how time works for you.

School Review

We are beginning our 4 year strategic review this week. This is an opportunity to reflect on the last 4 years of growth at the college and celebrate successes, while exploring opportunities for improvement. We will be going through school data, feedback from all members of the school community and observations of the school in action. This will lead to the development of our next 4 year strategic plan. We will share the outcomes of the process once finalised in Term 3.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

P/S/T Conferences were held on Thursday 4 May. We have continued to run them successfully online and are pleased with the positive response. It was reaffirming for students, parents and teachers to share learning progress since the start of the year.

Open Night

We held our 2023 Open Night on Tuesday 9 May and it was a very successful evening, despite the cold and wet weather. We are very proud of our College/Year Level Captains who spoke from the heart about their experiences at BSC. Edie W sang beautifully, and our student tour guides did a tremendous job escorting families around the college. Our amazing staff showcased their learning areas and several members of our wonderful Parents’ Association attended to answer questions.

2023 Education Week

This year, Education Week runs from Sunday 14 to Saturday 20 May. The theme Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate celebrates the many ways students learn, through physical activity, hands on learning and student voice.

Education Week is an opportunity for our school to celebrate and share with you how we encourage our students to be active learners.

Our school is proud to encourage active learners through Innovate, Specialisms and our Microcredentials Program.

We have been celebrating Education Week on our Facebook page and our students are looking forward to showcasing their learning with the school community at our upcoming Innovate & Project-based Learning (PBL) Expo.

To find out more, visit the Education Week 2023 website.

Permanent Lunch Pass for Year 12 Students

School Council have approved a 'Permanent Lunch Pass' for students in Year 12. Students who wish to leave school grounds to go home or to have lunch outside of school must have consent from their parents or guardians via the Compass Parent Portal prior to the Principal granting a permanent lunch pass. The following restrictions apply:

  • Students are not to drive, ride bikes or take public transport.
  • Students are to adhere to safe pedestrian practices when crossing the street.
  • Students granted such passes should be wearing their Year 12 jumpers so they are identifiable to staff.
  • Lunch pass holders are expected back at college before the end of lunchtime.
  • Students should not be late to session 4.
  • Students are expected to stay on-site for session 3 even if they have a study session.
  • School values and expectations are still applicable while students are off-site with the lunch pass.

Students who fail to comply with these requirements will have their lunch passes withdrawn. They do not have to sign in and out of the college at lunch time. We encourage parents to discuss this with their children prior to approving the form.

Professional Practice Days

Students are not required at school on the following days:

  • Thursday 15 June
  • Friday 24 November

There are no scheduled classes or supervision. Teachers have a professional practice on these days.
