Author Visit: Sue deGennaro

Thea Ho

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sue deGennaro – a Melbourne-based, award winning children's book author and illustrator – into our classroom as she shared with us her insightful knowledge and experience in writing picture story books.

Some of Sue's popular titles include 'We're Stuck', 'Missing Marvin', 'The Pros and Cons of Being a Frog', 'Sebastian and the Special Stack of Stories' and 'The Emperor’s New Clothes Horse', which we have here in our school library collection

Through the session with Sue, we were able to build on our understanding of the creative process involved when creating a picture story book - from character development, storyboards, publishers changes/feedback, backgrounds and colour roughs through to final publication.

Our class also loved that we were able to create our own drawings and illustrations following Sue's simple instructions. We were all very impressed - who knew we could draw like that?! Enjoy these few snaps from the event - the masks protected us from COVID but could not hide our excitement and enthusiasm!
