SCAMP – School Contemporary Art Mentoring Program

Jada-Lee Stevenson (Yr. 10) was selected by her Visual Arts teacher to take part in the SCAMP program. She is one of eight students from four high schools in the Cessnock LGA who has been given the opportunity to experience Art beyond the classroom. As part of this program, throughout the term Jada has been developing her ideas for her Body of Work in collaboration with her mentor, Contemporary artist Merryn Hull. Her work titled

‘Apocalypse in Politics’ is based on a concept which explores the lack of humanity displayed in Australian politics through the playful representation of politicians past and present. Jada is currently in the experimental stages of her work where she has shown focus and grit during lockdown, communicating with her mentor to further finalise her ideas. When completed, her Body of Work will be exhibited in the Cessnock Contemporary Exhibition which will held at the Tennis Club in early December. The exhibition will showcase all students works involved in the SCAMP program where the diversity of the artworks being explored by the local students in our community will be on full display.
