International Program

Phillip Island excursion. Doanvy Roberts

This term, we welcomed new international students to Sandringham College! It has been two long years of closed borders and no new international students arriving from overseas.

The year kicked off with Sandringham College being invited to participate in the International Student Voice Forum in February. Even though our new international students, Angela, Monyvattana and Eva were still finding their way around the the College, they stepped up to represent Sandringham College at the Forum. Our student trio came up with some creative, realistic and impactful ways to connect students and bring more global learning and multiculturalism to Sandringham College. The students will launch two global learning projects in Term 2 and will have several mentoring sessions to keep them focussed on their projects. In July, all ten schools involved in the Forum will return to the State Library of Victoria to present their completed projects. It has been wonderful watching our three international students grow into leaders and realise that their vibrant ideas and their voice are so important.

International Phillip Island Excursion

We had such an amazing Australian experience day down at Phillip Island and were so lucky to have perfect weather. We started the day with a quick visit to Forrest sea caves to stretch our legs. Then on to Smiths Beach for some beach safety and surfing instruction. Great to see staff and students giving it a go. Surfing was so much fun!!!

A visit to Moonlit Sanctuary saw us learning about reptiles before saying hello to sleepy koalas, a funny old Tassie Devil, a territorial barking owl, a curious emu. I think everyone would agree that best part was feeding the wallabies and kangaroos.

To cap off the day, we had fish and chips at Frankston beach and did not lose one single chip to a seagull. It was a fantastic day for both our local and international students to get to know each other a little more. To all the students who came on this excursion, your enthusiasm throughout the day was magnificent and we hope to see you at future international program activities.
