VCE French Film Festival Excursion

VCE French Film Festival Excursion

Students from the Year 11 and 12 French classes were invited to attend the Alliance Française French Film Festival as an evening excursion to Palace Brighton Bay on Friday 25th March. This long running film festival is held annually and is a great way for students of French to be able to engage with the French language and culture outside of their classes.

The film ‘The Kitchen Brigade’ proved a hit on the night, with the students leaving the cinema with nothing but praise for the film. Thanks to the students for giving up their Friday evening for a school event.

One of the Year 12 French students, Thorunn Millwood, kindly wrote a short review of the film in French. An English translation has been provided below.  Merci Thorunn!

On Friday evening, my French class went to the cinema. We saw the French film “The Kitchen Brigade”. It was very good and quite funny. It follows a group of immigrant children who hope to make a new life in France for themselves. In order to achieve their goal, they must work with a chef who is passionate, but very strict. Ultimately, it was a lovely evening and to see my classmates outside of school and absorb French culture with them was fantastic.

Term 2

The Languages domain has much more planned.  In Term 2, Year 8 Chinese students will be studying food and will receive some recipes to try out at home – including delicious dumplings- and will also take part in a chopsticks skills competition.

French students will be able to participate in the annual Berthe Mouchette French poetry competition This is a great opportunity for students to improve their pronunciation skills. Teachers are currently encouraging participation in this opt-in event – please contact your French teacher for more details if you would like to take part.
