Welcome back.

We understand that the world is always changing.  This change is often too slow to recognise and it is only when we look back that we realise how far we have come.  My 91 year old mother has been telling me for years that ‘there are so many cars on the road now’ and ‘its just not football anymore’, and at 52, I am starting to see what she means.

The physicist define inertia as: the resistance an object has to a change in its state of motion. In many ways there is a social inertia at play, a social inertia that requires action if it is to see substantive change.

With the ongoing pandemic and the increased awareness of racial inequalities around the world, change seems to be upon us faster than usual.

Our year 10 and 11 students were shown a presentation this past week highlighting their ownership of the world around them.

Their responsibly to manage this change and to protect their community.

And it further highlighted how lucky we are to have such a diverse and rich population at Sandringham Secondary College.

And it focused on our core value of community.

The message to our senior students is a simple one.  Even in the middle of this time of great change, as the happenings around us, both locally and abroad, affect change on us all, we need to hold dear the things that really matter.   We need to focus on our studies so that we can be an effective and educated agent of positive change and we need to work fiercely on our core values; our evolving character, as we move into the second half of this very different year.
