Hello from PV

Look at what is happening in Prep V!

If you've ever wondered what happens behind the doors of Prep V, the answer is... a lot of learning, a little bit of dancing, a lot of giggles and the occasional giraffe!

This fortnight we have been immersed in the wonderful story Giraffes Can't Dance. Gerald has become a firm favourite in our classroom as we have been busy becoming story detectives. Together we have pulled the story apart, identifying the beginning, middle and end, discovering the problem, identifying the main character and exploring how Gerald felt throughout the story.

But we didn't stop there! Our budding authors have taken on the role of real writers by recreating the story. We have been changing the main character, inventing new settings and imagining all sorts of hilarious possibilities. Who knew a penguin could dance at the beach or a snake could boogie at the zoo? The creativity has been endless and we've discovered that every great author starts with a great imagination.

In Mathematics, our classroom has been buzzing with addition! Our mathematicians have been learning how to find the total using the counting all strategy, creating their own addition stories and proving their thinking using our Think Boards. It has been wonderful to watch the children confidently explain their mathematical thinking using pictures, numbers, words and number sentences. 

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through our Prep year. Just six months ago many of our little learners were still finding their way around the classroom, learning where to put their school bags and remembering that pencils are for writing and not drumsticks! Fast forward to today, and they are reading books, writing sentences, solving maths problems, sharing their weekend news and growing into confident, independent learners every single day.

We couldn't be prouder of our amazing Prep V superstars. Their confidence, resilience and enthusiasm for learning continue to shine brighter each week.
