Class 2 News

HARRY BROWN

Class Two have begun their reader program and are starting to read and write little books. From our earlier work drawing pictures and writing short sentences about them we are now writing several sentences. Starting from the familiar poems that we know and progressing to the children writing short texts about themselves and then their own stories. A few very capable children have progressed straight to writing and illustrating longer stories.

Class Two are also exploring the wonderful geometry embedded within the patterns of the times tables. In this way we are reinforcing our knowledge of the number systems and admiring the relationships evident in the beautiful patterns they create.

Each day we explore a new pattern with the wool on a 10 frame board as well as drawing the pattern and horizontal number relationship which we recall from the previous day. This creates a three day rhythm if we are also writing the algorithms from two days ago. In the picture you can see the children draw their own circle freehand.

It is quite a task to grasp the concept of repeated addition which is inherent in multiplication and if you can take any opportunity at home using physical objects to reinforce the learning and celebrate success, that is greatly appreciated.
