Term 4 2026

Welcome to Term 4! We have an exciting term ahead as students continue to build their confidence, independence and foundational skills while preparing for Grade 1.

As we begin preparing our students for Grade 1, our big focus this term will be on building independence and resilience when navigating change and challenges. This includes lining up responsibly at the end of break times, walking to the classroom independently each morning, and learning to manage playground conflicts in a kind, respectful and responsible way. We will continue to support students to develop the confidence, independence and social skills they need to thrive as they prepare for the next exciting stage of their learning journey.

Literacy

Students will continue developing their reading, writing and spelling skills through Sounds-Write phonics, decodable texts, high-frequency words and handwriting. We will explore imaginative texts including The Gruffalo and My Two Blankets, as well as informative texts such as Are We There Yet? and Somebody’s Land. Students will practise retelling stories, building vocabulary, writing sentences and creating their own informative texts. Your child will be bringing home their Term 4 sight words/high frequency words. Please encourage them to read these lists and when they can read a word, practise writing it automatically as they are non-decodable words.

Maths

In Maths, students will explore money, time, teen numbers, number bonds, data displays and statistics, 3D objects and volume, and two-digit numbers. We will continue consolidating key skills and using hands-on materials to develop students’ number knowledge and problem-solving strategies.

Systemic Knowledge

Our first unit focuses on Earth’s resources, exploring how we depend on air, water and land and how we can care for these resources through reducing, reusing and recycling. We will then investigate health and human biology, focusing on body parts, personal safety and permission.

Looking Ahead

As we approach the end of the year, we will continue supporting students to consolidate their learning, celebrate their achievements and develop the independence and confidence they need as they prepare for Year 1. Our final weeks will include special school events, celebration activities and opportunities to reflect on how much the students have grown throughout their first year of school.
