Celebrating Diwali – The Festival of Lights

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most important festivals in Indian culture.

It is celebrated by millions of people around the world, including many in our school community.

Diwali marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

Traditionally, families celebrate Diwali by decorating their homes with candles and colourful lights, creating beautiful rangoli patterns, sharing sweets, and enjoying fireworks. It’s also a time for reflection, gratitude, and spending time with loved ones.

Diwali was a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions. Through art, music, storytelling, and food, students can explore the rich heritage behind this joyful celebration.

Students participated in a Diwali Dance workshop.  Learning about the cultural significance of the dance and festival, was embraced with excitement. The joy on their faces as they explored new customs and shared in the festivities was truly heartwarming.

Our amazing staff brought the celebration to life by sharing delicious homemade dishes that reflected the rich flavours of Indian cuisine. The staffroom was transformed into a feast of aromas and colours, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to taste and learn about traditional foods.

The highlight of the day was the lively dancing and music that filled the school lunchroom. Staff joined together in movement and laughter celebrating unity and diversity through rhythm and joy. The energy was infectious, and the smiles were endless!
