Principal's Report

Dear Parent and Families,

This week I write to you, not so much to inform you of happenings in and around the school, but for your input into a very meaningful process for our school and its future.

At Ballarat North Primary School, we have long held our school values of Care, Respect, Excellence and Community and these are deeply embedded in our culture and the day-to-day lives of our students, staff and families. However, as a school, we do not currently have a Vision statement and this is something that, as part of our school review at the end of 2024, I was very keen to develop FOR and WITH all members of our community. We are also taking this opportunity to review our school values and ensure that they are still relevant to our community and align with the vision of the school.

“Clarity around a school’s vision and values inspires, aligns and guides behaviours and decision making. It unites all members of the school community to work towards a common purpose. It brings both commitment and coherence to the day-to-day work of the school, providing a depth of understanding about what is most important and why.”

~ Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership

Vision includes ambitious, long-term goals for the school, and a vivid,

engaging and specific description of an achievable future world in which

the school will operate.

Values are the essential and enduring tenets of the school – the ‘non-negotiables’.

The best vision is built with the school community. This collaborative process is more complex and takes longer, but it results in a vision that is easier to understand and more inspiring. Many highly effective schools revisit their vision on a regular basis.

As such I am asking any and all interested parents and carers to complete the following survey as input into this process. At our Coffee & Cake session this week, Mrs Macdonald and I discussed these very questions with the parents present who offered us some wonderful insights and considerations. It is our intention to run focus groups with students in the near future for their voice, and to also complete a similar process with staff at a curriculum day in Term Two.

Thank you for taking the time to be a part of the Ballarat North Primary School future. I will be in further contact as the process evolves.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Until I see you in person,

David
