E-Scooters

By now you may have seen the fleet of vibrant purple E-Scooters weaving through the streets of Bendigo's CBD.

On the 23rd of May this year, Mayor CR Andrea Metcalf announced the launch of Beam Mobily’s 12-month E-scooter trial in urban Bendigo, stating “E-scooters can help stimulate business and tourism opportunities and offer residents and visitors the chance to explore urban Bendigo in a new way”.

Although an exciting opportunity for Bendigo residents, we must inform you that Girton Grammar is a space where E-scooters are not allowed to roam. As such, our school grounds (Vine and Mackenzie Street) are No-Go zones for the scooters, ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff.

Additionally, if your child is eager to embrace the use of E-scooters for their daily commute, it is important to note that Girton does not assume liability for any injuries, damages, or fines that may occur while using E-scooters. We also kindly recommend that students, parents, and carers familiarise themselves with government regulations and safety measures, as provided in the link here, before using E-scooters. This includes adhering to rules such as: riders being 16 years or older, always wearing helmets, avoiding scooting on footpaths, and the responsible parking of scooters.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Deputy Principal, Mr Jay Weston should you have any queries or concerns regarding this matter.
