Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends

 

What a term it has been!  To each and every student and staff member of Frankston High School, I sincerely thank you for everything you have done during this term and year.  I am so very proud to work with each and every one of you.  To our entire school community, I wish you all a relaxing and safe holidays, an enjoyable Christmas period, and look forward to seeing everyone in 2024, our Centenary Year.

2023 VCE Results

Amber Watson achieved a perfect score of 50 in Psychology!  Congratulations to Amber and her teacher Ms Paige Jessulat.

40+ scores = 9.81% of students

21% of scores over 90 = top 10% of the state

43% of scores over 80 = top 20% of the state

61% of scores over 70 = top 30% of the state

Median study score = 32. 

 

Thank you to ALL Year 12 teachers and ES Staff for your outstanding efforts with our students this year.  Thank you to ALL teachers and ES Staff from Year 7 to Year 11 who have made such a positive difference to these students and contributed to their growth.   Congratulations to ALL students on the completion of Victorian Certificate of Education/Vocational Major.  Thank you and well done to ALL families for your outstanding support of your children through their education.

VicSRC Award Winners!!!

On Thursday 23 November, we were named the Student Voice School of the Year for 2023 which is a wonderful achievement and recognition of our continual improvement and focus on expanding student voice at our school. 

 

Eliza Patston of Year 9 was awarded Student of the Year at the same awards, a fantastic achievement and recognition of her leadership. 

 

Congratulations also goes to Kelly Gilbert of Year 12  who was one of the six finalists for Student of the Year.

CONGRATULATIONS | 2023 Deakin Young Influencer Award

We would like to congratulate Amy Staunton of Year 11 on being chosen as the recipient of the 2023 Deakin Young Influencer Award. This award is open to all Year 11 students and Amy was selected as Frankston High School’s winner, which is an incredible achievement.

 

The Deakin Young Influencer Award recognises excellence and celebrates students who are truly motivated to make a positive difference in the world - now and into the future. Deakin believes strongly in acknowledging outstanding students, who stand for the same values that we do. The University has rewarded Amy’s efforts and achievements with a $5000 scholarship to support their first year of study at Deakin in 2025. 

 

This student has been awarded the Deakin Young Influencer Award for their commitment to the community. They are part of the school’s interact team that is responsible for raising over $35,000 for charities including Very Special Kids. This student is one of Frankston High School's Deputy Year Level Captains and strives to improve the school experience and advocate for all people in their year level. Additionally, they participate in the Student Leadership Council, further demonstrating their commitment to developing their leadership skills. Community Leadership and Progressive Thinking are values that Deakin seeks to uphold and we commend this student for their commitment to them. Congratulations Amy, we wish you all the best and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

Year 12 Valedictory

We held a wonderful Year 12 Valedictory on Wednesday 22 November in the Palladium Room at Crown. It was fantastic to see so many students there with their families enjoying the night celebrating the Class of 2023! Thank you to Ms Tiffany Greenhill, Ms Kelly Mitchell, Ms Brittany Harvey, Mr Ryan Jones, Ms Carla Caminiti, Mr Shaun Rodan, Ms Kerryn Elrick, Mr Mitch Land, Ms Leanne Milne, Ms Carolyn McIver, Ms Tina Thomas, Mrs Jess Bambridge, Mrs Sharon Bourne, Ms Claudia Tymms, Ms Mel Donegan, Ms Kelly Lin and Mrs Sharon Koning for their efforts and support in overseeing the development of these students. Thank you to ALL of our amazing teachers who have taught these students this year and throughout their time at Frankston High School.  

World Challenge – Nepal

On Thursday 16 November, 55 students and 6 staff, Ms Cheryl Hodgson, Ms Kate Burgess, Mr Mal Burt, Mr Brett Cook, Mr John Russell and Ms Imogen Slinger, departed for the World Challenge Expedition to Nepal. The students and staff have been having a wonderful time. Thank you to Ms Leah Hannas for her efforts supporting the expedition.

Great Victoria Bike Ride

A team of 29 students and 3 staff, Mr Heath Booth, Ms Paige Whitworth, and Mr Liam McDonald undertook the 2023 Great Victoria Bike Ride of 540 kilometres (approximately 77km per day) from Orbost to Wonthaggi from 25 November to 3 December. There were some extra challenges along the way, with some very poor weather cancelling one day of cycling. Thank you to Ms Tiff Greenhill for her support of the group.

Art Exhibition

We held the official opening of the 2023 Art Exhibition on Monday 20 November to a large audience. The variety and standard of works on display by our students from Years 7 to 12 was incredible. Congratulations to the Acquisitive prize recipient Lili Snow of Year 12.   Well done to Ms Birra-li Ward and Ms Lily Donovan for organising and overseeing this, supported by our talented staff: Ms Natalie D’Ambra, Ms Jo Beck, Ms Georgie Stein, Ms Angela Marrone, Ms Annie Griffin, Mr Matt Turner, Mr Adam Martin. Thank you to Mrs Anne Thompson, Mr Jordan Churches and the Facilities Team for their support of setup of the exhibition (which ran until 29 November), along with Mr John Simon and the staff members who helped out.

Bio-Studio

On Monday 20 November, we launched our Bio-Studio project which has been led by Ms Birra-li Ward and Ms Sarah Edwards, a project they created as part of their Teaching Fellowship from the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. There was great interest in this work, including from the ABC who came and filmed some students and the staff. It was wonderful to hear the feedback from the students and their parents regarding the learnings and combination of Arts and Science as part of this project.

Early Commencement

It has been great to see so many excited students with the beginning of our Early Commencement program which ran recently for 2024 VCE/VM students, and continued this week for students in Years 8 to 10 in 2023. Our Early Commencement program allows students to meet most of their teachers for 2024 and to experience their new subjects. The work covered during this time becomes part of their assessment for Semester 1 next year.

Portsea Lifesaving Camp

Well done to Mr James Cameron for organising and leading a wonderful Lifesaving Camp at Portsea last week. Thank you also to the following staff who attended and supported the camp: Mr Adam Martin, Mr Joshua Smith, Mr Riley Lovick, Mr Thom Lean, Mr Dylan Garrett, Mrs Georgia Tierney and Mr Rowan Cameron. They were supported by some alumni students in running various activities throughout the week, along with members from Portsea Surf Lifesaving Club. I had the pleasure of attending and witnessing the students who were able to demonstrate high level skills. We are excited for the students/lifesavers who completed their qualifications to begin or continue their patrolling experience at Portsea Back Beach throughout the summer. A big thank you to the wonderful team at Portsea Surf Lifesaving Club for their efforts and connection with our school which has been for over 25 years. 

2024 Year 7 – Information Evening and Orientation Day 

We held our 2023 Year 7 Information Evening on Tuesday 28 November to a full audience of families whose children are joining us in Year 7 next year. We are looking forward to welcoming these students on Tuesday 12 December for Orientation Day. The day will begin in the PAT at 9am with an assembly before students are dismissed into their 2024 classes for a fun filled day of activities. Thank you to Mr Joel McMahon, Ms Samantha Cody, Mr John Simon, Ms Phoebe Macreadie, Ms Catherine Kyriakos, Mrs Sharee Dew and the Junior Sub-School Team for their efforts organising these events. 

New Buildings 7-10 Campus

We are thrilled to be moving into the new Administration/Learning Centre building over the coming period with the completion of the modernisation project. It will be wonderful to have these new learning and collaboration spaces for our school community. Thank you to Mrs Carolyn Florance for her leadership of the project, well supported by Mr Glenn Davey.

Centenary

We are extremely excited for 2024 being the 100th year of operation for Frankston High School. The Centenary Committee have been working hard to organise a number of key events to mark this momentous occasion, thank you to Ms Leah Hannas, Ms Carolyn Florance and Mrs Jess Bambridge for their efforts overseeing the efforts of the committee.
