VicSRC | Student Voice Awards
On Thursday 23 November, a group of students attended the VicSRC Student Voice Awards, where schools and students are recognised for their work in Student Voice and Agency. The night was a great success with Eliza Patston (Year 9) being awarded one of two Student of the Year awards.
Eliza would like to share: “I’m really excited and honoured to receive this award when, as you have seen, there are so many incredible students who have done such great work in this past year. I'd like to thank the incredible student leaders and Interact team of Frankston High School, as well as the staff who have helped me so much, especially Mrs Bahramis and Mr Christie. Thank you so much.”
Also very excitingly, Frankston High School has also been recognised as the Student Voice School of the Year for 2023.
Hayden Van Kuyk and Lucy Duck of Year 12 accepted the award on the night and would like to share the following:
“We been extensively involved in leading student voice and agency initiatives and we are incredibly honoured to be standing here today in recognition of the change our school is driving.
Student voice, agency and leadership are essential for a thriving school environment. SVA allows students to feel comfortable and have autonomy over their learning, which in turn creates eager learners and successful individuals. This is why we have placed such a high value on student input at Frankston High School. It means that we, as students, can flourish.
While we are here today to celebrate student voice, agency and leadership, our work would not be possible without our dedicated team of SLC teachers, Sarah Bahramis, Jon Christie and Anthony Keane. Their unwavering commitment to improving student-led learning and supporting student projects has been invaluable to not only the SLC, but all students at Frankston High School. Alongside these three, we would also like to thank other staff members we have worked with. Our principal team, our Head of Curriculum Julia Cafiso and our Head of Connectedness Jess Bambridge, who we have also collaborated with on our endeavours.
We thank VicSRC for this award and are excited to continue to advocate for student voice in the coming years.”
This award is a huge team effort by all Frankston High School staff and many students who have passionately worked to increase student voice and agency at our school. Members of the Frankston High School SLC accepted this prestigious award at the ceremony.
A huge congratulations also goes to Kelly Gilbert (Year 12) who was one of the six finalists for Student of the Year.
