28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells a story about intentions. There was a king who gave a wedding party for his son. People were invited, but when it was time to come to the party, the people who had been invited had other plans and did not come. They may have had good intentions, but they chose to do other things.
Sometimes we have good intentions, but we don’t always follow through with them. The lesson this story teaches us is that we all are invited by God to follow our good intentions. By being of service to others- sharing God’s love with others through our words and actions.
Sunday 11th October- Gospel Reading: Matthew 22:1-14
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son’s wedding. He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they would not come. Next he sent some more servants. “Tell those who have been invited” he said “that I have my banquet all prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to the wedding.” But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business, and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and killed them. The king was furious. He dispatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town. Then he said to his servants, “The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to be unworthy, go to the crossroads in the town and invite everyone you can find to the wedding.” So these servants went out on to the roads and collected together everyone they could find, bad and good alike; and the wedding hall was filled with guests.’
The Gospel of the Lord
Month of the Rosary
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. The Rosary draws its mysteries from the New Testament, with each decade referring to an event in the lives of Jesus and Mary.
The Mysteries of the Rosary
The Joyful Mysteries are taken mostly from Saint Luke’s Gospel in the New Testament.
They involve the joyful events of Jesus’ childhood; The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Nativity of Jesus, The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, The Finding of Jesus in the Temple.
The Luminous Mysteries (Mysteries of Light) bring a deeper understanding to the public life of Jesus. From the childhood of Jesus and His ministry; The Baptism of Jesus, The Wedding at Cana, Jesus announces God’s Kingdom, The Transfiguration, Jesus Gives us the Holy Eucharist.
The Sorrowful Mysteries remind us of how much Jesus loves us. They recall how He
suffered and died for us; The Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning of Thorns, The Carrying of the Cross, The Crucifixion.
The Glorious Mysteries tell us what happened after Jesus died-His Resurrection, the Descent of the Holy Spirit and the love Jesus had for his Mother; The Resurrection of Jesus, The Ascension of Jesus, The Descent of the Holy Spirit, The Assumption of Mary, The Crowning of Mary.
