PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Welcome back.

We trust everyone had a lovely time with family and friends over the break.

We were welcomed back yesterday with a big day undertaking Athletics for Grade 3 to 6.  Some very excited Grade 3 students engaging for the first time, which was great to see.

Mrs Jeffreys and I even attempting to show the Grade 6 girls how to throw a discus!!

Thank you to Amy Van Braam for her amazing efforts in the organisation of this event.  To the staff that assisted her in the lead up to and on the day was greatly appreciated.

It was wonderful to see more parents put their hand up to support when Amy reached out seeking further volunteers.  Without your support these events cannot take place, and we thank all volunteering parents for their assistance yesterday.

Mrs Jeffreys and I were very impressed with the support students were offering their peers, constant positive affirmations and encouragement throughout the event that certainly did not go unnoticed. It is moments like this that we are so proud of the young individuals in our care each day and community that we are a part of.  Each and every student should be congratulated.

A big thank you to our newly formed Parents and Friends Association ‘Friends of Chilwell’ for setting up the snack stall.  From what I hear they sold out, which was great.  We thank the parents for their enthusiasm in getting this group up and running and look forward to further events throughout the year.  The next event is our Mother’s Day/ Special Persons breakfast on Thursday May 7th.  Families will have the opportunity to pre order Egg and Bacon Rolls, or Pastries and coffee to enjoy before school on this day.  More information to come.

The Friends of Chilwell Group is a not-for-profit organisation, run officially as an association and therefore required ‘office bearers’ to be selected.  Congratulations to Gen Dalling – President, Emily Scarlett – Secretary and Emma Scott – Treasurer for being successful in these roles for 2026.

Please note the Friends of Chilwell group has been formed to:-

  • Foster a sense of connectedness within the school and local community.
  • Help promote the school values and contribute to the wellbeing of our school community.
  • Provide opportunities for parents and friends to get to know one another, amongst other areas.

Whilst they may raise some funds through particular events, their purpose is not to host fundraisers for school projects etc. like the Fair. The funds they raise (if and when applicable)  is to allow them to host future events for our community, such as a potential disco in term 3 or end of year picnic in term 4.

If anyone is interested in reaching out and joining the Friends of Chilwell group, please email the school email Chilwell.ps@education.vic.gov.au and we will forward your details onto the team.

Don't forget we have a Curriculum Day on Friday May 8th, and therefore no school for students.

Classroom teaching staff are undertaking a day with David Morkunas, a math specialist.

Our specialist team are undertaking learning walks, spending time in specialist classes learning from others at another local school.

Educational support staff are undertaking professional learning with our Occupational Therapist around emotional regulation and what may be happening for the students that may require support. They will also look at neurodiversity and sensory processing strategies to support regulation.

We are very much looking forward to the term ahead, learning within and around our local community, along with upgrades to the yard from funds raised at the Fair.

Thanks everyone and have a great week.

Kind regards,

Meg
