Premier’s Reading Challenge 2024 starts Monday 17th June

This year we are excited to again be participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge at John Paul II. Every year, thousands of students across Tasmania participate in this Challenge, which encourages students to develop their own personal reading goals and immerse themselves in the world of stories.

Key Dates

This year the Challenge at John Paul II will run from Monday, 17th June to Monday, 12th August.

Letter from the Premier

Congratulations on participating in the 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge.

The Challenge is not a competition, but a way to encourage you to develop a love of reading for life. No matter what you aspire to do or be, reading and literacy skills will help you get there. I encourage all Tasmanian students to take part, no matter what your reading level. Whether you’re a bookworm or just starting your reading journey, this challenge is for you! It’s not about how many books you read, but about the joy and excitement of exploring new stories, characters, and ideas. And for families – you can help your child get involved in the challenge by reading with them, talking to them about what they are reading and providing lots of encouragement! So grab something to read and challenge yourself!

Students are encouraged to set their own reading goals and work towards these. Reading can include a range of formats, including chapter books, information books, picture books and graphic novels. It all counts in the PRC.

Reading is a skill we need for life.  All the reading completed in this challenge will help students at school and at home.

Students will receive entry forms to record the books they have read. Awards will be presented during Book Week for students who have challenged themselves to read a wide range of books at their level.
