Specialist lessons 

PE: Troy

Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend PE classes while Margie is on leave. However, I am pleased to share how our Physical Education program is continuing across year levels this term.

Early Years Focus

Our Early Years students are focusing on a range of fundamental movement skills. These essential skills—including throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, and dodging—are introduced and practised through a variety of small games and activity stations. The aim is to explicitly teach these core skills so students can confidently apply them to games and sports as they grow older.

Upper Primary and Middle Primary

Over the past two weeks, our older students have been learning the skills and strategies of netball. As the term progresses, we will be moving on to table tennis for our upper primary students. Middle primary students will be exploring European handball, developing teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and game sense in an engaging and supportive environment.

We look forward to seeing our students’ skills progress and their enthusiasm for physical activity continue throughout the term.

Indonesian: Ibu Susan

In Indonesian we have started our new topics Saya melihat...( I can see...) and Hobi Saya (My Hobbies). The younger classes have been introduced to our new story which uses some unknown and familiar high frequency nouns. We have also met our new teddies for this term, Putri the pangolin and Ketut the orangutan. The older students have started familiarising themselves with our new list of words and the question Apa hobi kamu? (What is your hobby?). We have used stories, puzzles and games to reinforce this new vocabulary.  Also a big congratulations to Sallie's class who shared their Sea Turtle boardgames with the year 1 children late last term. It was wonderful to see the younger children happily playing and learning from the older students. Bagus!

HASS: Isabel

The 5/6 class began Term 3 by presenting their independent research projects on an Asian country from last term. All of the students worked hard to research their chosen country and display their information in an engaging way. All students presented their research to a small group of peers and everyone learned a lot from each other. See below a few photos of some of their posters!

This term, the middle and upper primary students will be focusing on Civics and Citizenship. We have begun by discussing how rules and laws impact our lives, and the ways in which people can contribute positively to their communities through volunteering. I am looking forward to seeing how this term’s focus will get students thinking about the role they can play as an active citizen!

In junior primary, we will be exploring History and discussing how objects and people have changed over time. It will be great for students to have an opportunity to explore artefacts from the past and compare what school was like with their experience now.

Science: Paige

This term in Science we are exploring the topic Earth and Space.

In our Junior Primary lessons, students will learn about daily and seasonal changes in the environment by developing our understanding of the four seasons, associated weather patterns and the impact these elements have on everyday life. Students will explore ways that humans, animals and plants adapt to the changing climate and weather conditions.

In the Middle Primary, students will develop an understanding of the universe’s evolution through building an appreciation of Earth’s important resources and exploring the interaction between celestial bodies within our solar system. In particular we will focus on Earth and its relationship with the sun, moon and position within our solar system. We will further our knowledge by investigating Earth’s important resources including air, water, sunlight, soil, plants, minerals and animals. Students will monitor and record the impact that their actions have on our environment and explore ways to live more sustainably.

In the Upper Primary students will focus on Earth’s position amongst the eight planets, its tilt and relationship with the sun and the constant change to the Earth’s surface. Through hands-on investigations, students will explore the impact of natural and human actions on the environment; including flooding, volcanoes, construction, mining and pollution and furthermore explore sustainable practises to minimise our impact; including reducing waste, conserving energy and using renewable resources.

RECYCLING! 

"Reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, rethink, repair, reprocess, recover, regift, return, repeat" , can you think of any more "re" words to do with recycling and sustainability?

The year 2/3 class are noticing what sort of recycling we have in place at school, why we recycle and how they can make a difference.

Reduce - aim for zero soft plastics in lunch boxes.

Reuse - use both sides of every piece of paper.

Recycle - correct sorting into 3 bin systems in classrooms and the yard.

Return- 10c recycling into the red bin in the yard.

At Uraidla Primary we want to keep thinking about what we can do to reduce land fill and protect our natural resources.
