Art, Peace, and Stories: A Week of Reflection and Creativity
This week, as part of Book Week, our students explored the power of art and storytelling in expressing important ideas. While studying Andy Warhol’s iconic pop art, we discussed how he used bold colours to highlight individual squares and create eye-catching visual repetition. Inspired by this, students created their own stamped artworks, choosing colours to give each section a unique voice—just as Warhol did.
We also took time to learn about the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima, Japan—a moving tribute to the child victims of nuclear and conventional war, featuring the figure of Sadako Sasaki and thousands of paper cranes symbolizing hope and peace. This led to rich conversations about the impact of war, the importance of peace, and how both art and books can tell powerful stories across generations.
