Intermediate Boys Basketball
On the 29th of July, our Senior and Intermediate Boys made the trip across to Ballarat to compete in the Eureka Division Basketball.
In the first game for the Intermediate Team, we came up against Woodmans Hill. With a focus on starting well, we passed around and hustled in defence, leading to some open three-pointers. Tom Grant took full advantage, shooting two out of the three and getting our offence moving. After taking a comfortable win, we were straight into round two.
This time, we were up against Ballarat High School’s B Team and we knew we would have to step it up. Thanks to Harry’s constant efforts to drive the ball up the court, and Kody’s tireless work in defence, we walked away with our second win for the day.
In our third game, we were up against the favourites, Ballarat High’s A Team, meaning this game was going to be a lot more difficult. Although we stuck with them for the first half, Ballarat lifted in the second and ran away with the win.
Our final game in the pool was against Phoenix College’s A Team. An unfortunate and untimely injury to Harry left us not only fatigued, but undermanned. Despite a commendable effort from Point Guard, Baxter, and the rest of the team doing their bit, we still lost. As a result, we didn’t proceed through to the Semi-Finals.
Instead, we played off against Phoenix B, who had placed third in their pool. This game was to see who secured 5th Place out of the ten teams competing on the day. With Harry out, Liam stepped up, utilising his height, while Javiar was able to take advantage of the fast breaks. With Beaufort in control of most of the game, we were able to take the win convincingly.
Well done to all players for their outstanding sportsmanship and modelling of the school values. Special thanks to Miss Hughes for organising and Mr Webb for coaching.
