Message from the Principal

Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Families,

LITFEST2024 -One of my favourite weeks of the year...

While other schools do Book Week, Albanvale Primary School has taken it up a notch with our second annual LITFEST!

The students and staff have celebrated their love of all literacy with our character dress-up parade on Monday and special activities in the classroom all week. But the absolute highlight for me was our Reading Café, held on Thursday morning. It was wonderful seeing our community come together around our love of reading, writing and language. I know the students take great pride in being able to show what they have been working on in class in our Writer's Gallery. A special congratulations to our Spelling Bee Champions Raiden (F-2) and Janet (3-6) They managed to perform fantastically well under the pressure of an e-n-o-r-m-o-u-s crowd to claim their title. I know Mr Taylor has already turned his attention to 2025 and is planning even more extravagant prizes for our Spelling Champions so be sure to keep practising from now.

Our High Five Book Fair, running all week, has given the students an opportunity to

redeem their High Five Cards for some of the latest books and novels. This is part of our mission to help every student have access to high-quality, engaging literature at school and at home. We have spent in excess of $6000 to stock our Book Shop with high-quality and engaging literature for all students and so far over 11,000 High 5 Cards have already been redeemed.

These fantastic opportunities would not be possible without the effort and commitment of

the staff at our school. A special mention to Mr Taylor and teachers of 3-6 for their planning and preparation and a big thank you to our Office Team for their over-the-top efforts to bring everything together. Furthermore, I'd like to acknowledge and thank Victoria University Secondary College for their generosity in loaning us the display boards to enable our Writers Gallery. This is just another example of our fantastic relationships with our network colleagues.

Teachers have already begun posting media on Seesaw and our school Facebook/Instagram pages have been active. Even more exciting, keep an eye out for media published in the Start Weekly next week and also the Herald Sun through a Book Week Feature story. Our local member for parliament Luba Grigorovitch also joined us and has published our event thought her social media - please check it out.

Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey

Thank you to all the families who have taken the time to fill out the annual Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey. This survey is offered by the Department of Education and is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of how families feel about the our school. Your opinions are important to us and contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needed at the school. We encourage all families to take this opportunity to take the survey. To say thank you we are giving a $5 canteen voucher for every family who completes the survey.

Prep 2025

Prep pre-enrolments for 2025 are now closed. Families who wish to enrol their child for Prep at our school next year (and haven't done so) are now subject to the normal school enrolment policy. We have started our Prep Head Start Program giving enrolled students access to an hour or pre-prep classes for free each week. Families interested in enrolling their child for next year and encouraged to contact the front office as soon as possible with places now limited.

Thank you for helping us Achieve Excellence, Together.
