Mr Hyatt

Greetings from the Coffs Coast!

It is quite unusual that I am writing up my reflections for this edition of the newsletter in my confined space at the Coffs Coast Adventure Centre. We are in the final stages of the Year 5-6 Excursion and it has been quite a few days so far. Although some of the students may not think so but the weather has been glorious and overall our excursion has been a huge success. The students have had the opportunity to take in the various insects and other animals at The Butterfly House. Taking part in a number of team building activities at the centre itself with the commando run being a big hit! A large number of students were fascinated with the various aquatic animals at the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park as well as having the chance to test their green thumbs at the Botanical Gardens, in which I failed miserably!

As you can see, there have been a number of highlights and what I have just described is only just the tip of the iceberg. It has been a big three days and I have a feeling that it is going to be a quiet trip home tomorrow.

There will be a full round-up of our time here in Coffs Harbour in the next edition of the newsletter.

School as normal Friday 3rd & Monday 6th November

Please note: the school will be operating as normal on both Friday 3rd November and Monday 6th November as the scheduled power outages have both been cancelled.

Well Done Annie!

It was a shame that Annie had to miss out on taking part in the Year 5-6 Excursion due to a clash of dates with the first day of the NSWPSSA Athletics Carnival taking place yesterday. Representing Polding, Annie was competing against the best athletes from across the state in attempting to gain selection in the New South Wales team that will compete at the National All Schools Athletics Carnival on the 11th and 12th December in Perth. Yesterday Annie competed in the qualifying heats for the Senior Girl 800m and was placed third in her heat and 13th overall. Unfortunately, Annie didn't qualify to compete in the final that was to be held earlier this afternoon. However, Annie should be very proud of what she has accomplished, knowing that she can count herself being the fastest girl in 800m in country New South Wales, as the students who placed first to twelve all came from the Sydney and Wollongong region.  Congratulations Annie, all of us are very proud of your achievement.

End of Year Presentations

It is not that long before we will be formally acknowledging the student's achievements for this academic year. Although our End of Year Presentation Night was a great event last year, it simply took too long! This year is also our allocated year where all of the classes are involved with a whole school performance. The play has been selected, roles have been allocated and all of our students have begun practising their acting and dancing moves for our performance of 'The Dragon Returns' which will be on Wednesday 29th November, commencing at 6.00 pm at the Walcha Multipurpose Centre.

It has been decided we will not be having our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony, classroom and perpetual awards on the same night. So on Thursday 7th December, we will be having our annual Schools Presentation Night under the school COLA, followed by a barbecue, where all members of our school community are invited to join us. More information concerning this event will be released soon.

Year 3-4 Excursion to Thalgarrah

The Year 3-4 students will be participating in an overnight excursion to Thalgarrah Environment Education Centre on the 23rd and 24th of November. Mrs Makeham and myself will be supervising the students on this excursion. Information was sent home to all families last week via Compass.

Transition Graduation Ceremony 10th November!

It only seemed like yesterday when our fifteen transition students consisting of Harry K, Alfie, Anna, Amelia, Harrison, Millie, Stirling, Eden, Alice, Evelyn, Wallace, Harry M, Heidi, Eve and Jake commenced our transition program. I know that all of the children have had a great time over the last three months and I can definitely tell all of them are ready for Kindergarten next year. Thank you to Mrs Hoy, Mrs Rizzi and Mrs Healey who have lead these sessions at various times during the program. To celebrate our Transition's achievements we will be holding a Graduation Ceremony as part of our school assembly on Friday 10th November commencing at 2.20pm. Everyone is invited to join us.
