Student Projects

Our Year 12 students have been working hard to put the finishing touches on their projects as they approach the end of their time at the College. It has been great to see the variety of projects taking shape and the skills, persistence and craftsmanship students have demonstrated throughout the year.

As projects reach completion, many students are still adding materials and components. This can make it difficult for staff to finalise project costs at short notice. Staff will endeavour to prepare and send invoices as early as possible next term.

Completed projects will be available for students to collect at the Year 12 Graduation and Scholarship Presentations on 13 Novembr 2026, provided that all associated invoices have been paid. We appreciate families' patience and understanding while we calculate final material costs and prepare invoices.

For students in General courses, attendance next term will only be required if they have outstanding work or have not yet been signed off as having completed the requirements for their certificates. Students who are unsure of their status are encouraged to check with their teachers.

Trailer Projects and Licensing

There have been some significant changes to the process for licensing student-built trailers, with the process now moving to the ROVER system. This has introduced more documentation and rigour when applying for a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and ultimately licensing a trailer.

To help students and families navigate this process, we will provide each trailer project with a file containing the relevant trailer details, documentation, and a checklist outlining the steps needed to obtain a VIN and progress through the licensing process. Our aim is to make the requirements as clear as possible, so students understand what needs to be completed once their trailer leaves the College.

Looking ahead, the Design and Technology department is also developing a number of standard trailer designs that we intend to have an engineer review and approve. Having approved designs available should help streamline the process for future students, while also ensuring trailers are designed and constructed to meet the necessary requirements.

Students will still have the opportunity to design and manufacture custom trailer projects. However, students and families choosing this option should be aware that a custom design may require additional engineering assessment and testing before it can be licensed, which will likely increase costs.

These changes will take time to refine, but our goal is to keep giving students the opportunity to manufacture high-quality, practical projects while making the pathway from the workshop to registration as straightforward as possible.

Year 12s

I would like to wish all Year 12s who are not returning next term farewell and wish them the best in the working world. Everything you have done here at the College has set you up for a fantastic career in whatever you choose. See you all at Graduation.
