Student Representative updates - Jonathan O’Farrell, SRC Captain
The SRC is proud to launch the annual St Vincent de Paul Hamper Appeal to support those experiencing homelessness this Christmas season. Contributions are essential to making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We encourage everyone to bring in non-perishable goods such as canned food, packaged items, toiletries and small festive treats. The SRC will visit every homeroom with baskets to collect these goods. Let’s unite to spread Christmas cheer and provide much-needed support to our community this holiday season! Thank you for your generosity.
The other very important activity coming up is the last Clean Cairns event organised by the SRC; save the date – 5 November. The lunchtime sign-on will be advertised in the notices next week. Every piece of rubbish we pick up is a move in the right direction!
Prefect Farewell Dinner
Congratulations to the prefects of 2025 on a job well done in leading the College this year. Thank you to Mr Seivers who sponsored the farewell dinner, a fitting celebration and thank you for their service. They have made a positive impact on the College and they have been a pleasure to work with.
On behalf of the College, we wish them every success, but more importantly, we hope they continue to be Marist men who are good Christians and good citizens.

Kadyn Marino’s last student-led prayer
Kadyn facilitated his last student-led prayer and delivered a very important challenge to his fellow graduands. The following is an excerpt from that prayer.
From John’s Gospel, Jesus said “This is my command: Love each other.”
But what does this commandment mean to us now, as we finish our time here at Saints? It’s a reminder that this brotherhood is not just here at Saints, it’s all around us. We are challenged by Christ to spread this brotherhood and love to everyone just like we have done this year. No longer are we boys who just went to Saints but men, shaped by our brotherhood and the community here. We’ve shaped bonds with each other and our teachers, who will soon no longer be our teachers – much like how Jesus became a friend to the disciples rather than a master. Think about the legacy we’ve left behind. But most importantly I’ll ask you a question, what’s next? We are always Saints men, so how are we going to show it in the communities that we will move into?
Kadyn has written creative and emotive prayers that have allowed our students to connect, and the College is grateful for his commitment to sharing the Catholic faith.

Thank you to Finn Slade the Service Captain of 2025
I thank Finn for his tireless work in supporting and organising many of the College’s service initiatives. Finn’s dedication and strong encouragement of student involvement led to outstanding results in fundraising including $13,016 raised for the MAPS Appeal, $12,660 for Relay for Life – earning us the highest fundraising junior group in the Cairns region – along with 46 students collecting for the Red Shield Appeal.
He also led efforts that raised $26,307 for Rosies through the Ride for Rosies, which was a combined St Augustine, St Monica’s event with an impressive 70 riders, and finishing off with 38 students participating in the Vinnies Sleep Out, raising $2,600.
Across all year levels, more than 2,000 hours of service were donated to our community. An incredible achievement!
