The St Augustine’s College First XI Cricket squad recently travelled to Brisbane to compete in the StreetSmarts Statewide Cricket Carnival, featuring school teams from across Queensland. The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for our players to test themselves against quality opposition.

Saints began the carnival in dominant form, recording convincing victories across the pool matches. They defeated Canterbury College by 10 wickets, Hillbrook Anglican by 8 wickets, Nanango State High by a remarkable 145 runs, and Kingaroy State High by 5 wickets. Their consistent performances saw them progress to the semi-final, where they overcame St Patrick’s College Mackay to secure a place in the grand final against Padua College. In a tightly contested decider, Saints posted 83 runs before Padua chased down the total to claim the win by 8 wickets.

Across all matches, there were several outstanding individual performances. Batting highlights included strong contributions from Ian De Lange (35, 23, 42, 23) and Samson Pittorino (50, 49, 26), who consistently anchored the innings throughout the tournament. In the bowling department, Harry Jensen produced remarkable figures of 5 wickets for 4 runs, while Ian De Lange (3/20 and 4/20), Ryan Scarborough (3/20), and Samson Pittorino (4/12) also delivered standout performances with the ball.

The First XI displayed outstanding teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the carnival — qualities that continue to define Saints Cricket. Congratulations on a successful campaign.

JSS

Saints took on Newman Catholic College in Round 6 of the JSS competition, marking the final round of Term 3. The College recorded a clean sweep across all fixtures, winning in Aussie Rules, Basketball, Soccer, Touch Football, and Volleyball. The AFL team secured a 70–16 victory, while the Basketball team won 54–35. In Football, Saints came away with a narrow 3–2 result, and the Touch Football team recorded a convincing 13–0 win. The Volleyball team pulled off an upset, winning their match 2–1. It was a strong overall showing from all Saints teams, concluding the term on a positive note.

Unfortunately, we did not have a strong fixture in our first games of Term 4 against Bentley Park. It was a challenging round of fixtures, with the teams recording two wins and three close losses. The Football side continued their strong form with a 5–0 victory, while the Touch Football team also came away with a solid 7–4 win. The AFL team lost in a 44–55, and Basketball went down narrowly 56–58 in a high-scoring contest. The Volleyball team were defeated 0–2, despite being extremely competitive. Our teams will face a final round fixture against MacKillop College in their last tune up before the finals begin.

Rugby 7s - Mr Toby McCarthy

On the last day of Term 3, our three Rugby Union 7s teams played the annual Northern 7s Tournament, held at St Andrew’s. Our U14s were a little unlucky running third after some very close games and some contentious calls. The U16s were a class above their respective opposition, winning their final 49-5 over Peace Lutheran. The U18s were also dominant, our “second” Cerise ran third and were unlucky not to make the final. Our Blue team though were super impressive, winning games 46-0, 42-0 and 39-0 to take out the title. The boys drew praise from QRU officials and were a credit to themselves and the College on and off the paddock. Very well done lads, great job.

A special thanks must go to Mr Anton Williams for his work with both junior teams and Mr Dwayne Irvine for taking the U14s on the day. Thanks to Mr Di Salvo for all his work before the day.
