Dear Families

After such a beautiful weekend and a glorious start to the week, it certainly feels as though Spring has arrived! The sunshine, blue skies and warmer temperatures have been a very welcome change and, with today officially marking the first day of Spring, hopefully they are a sign of plenty more beautiful weather to come.

There’s always something special about Melbourne in September. The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up, and of course, AFL Finals are here! This year’s Premiership race looks particularly wide open, with all eight teams heading into September believing they’re capable of going all the way.

Whatever colours you wear, it should make for an exciting few weeks of footy. Good luck to all the teams and supporters involved in the upcoming weekend of finals, although I’m sure you won’t mind me showing just a little Principal bias…

Holy Trinity Trivia Night – A HUGE Success!

By all accounts, our Holy Trinity Trivia Night on Saturday evening was a fantastic night and a wonderful celebration of our school community. It was great to hear about the terrific atmosphere, plenty of laughs and, of course, some healthy competition throughout the evening!

While I wasn’t able to be there myself (I had a prior commitment watching my beloved Blues!) I have heard nothing but positive feedback about the night and the enormous amount of work that went into making it such a success.

A very special thank you must go to Amelia Rolfs, Prue and Luke Penhalluriack, and Simone Goeree, who have worked tirelessly over the past six months to plan and prepare for the evening. Events like this simply don’t happen without people generously giving their time, energy and expertise, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they did behind the scenes.

Thank you also to the many businesses, families and individuals who generously donated prizes and auction items, and to everyone who attended, purchased tickets, bid on items and supported the evening.

Importantly, the night also raised a fantastic amount for our school, with funds going directly towards new resources and equipment for our students. We will share the final fundraising total once everything has been tallied.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved, a fantastic community event and another wonderful example of what can be achieved when our Holy Trinity community comes together.

Father’s Day at Holy Trinity

A reminder that we will celebrate Father’s Day at Holy Trinity this Friday, 4 September, with our Father’s Day Stall in the morning and a special celebration in the afternoon.

Our Father’s Day Stall will run from 9.00am, with students having the opportunity to purchase a special gift. A big thank you to our Parents Association, particularly Gauri Shah and Simone Devlin, for their time and work in organising the stall for our children.

From 2.00pm, we warmly invite all dads, grandads, uncles and the special men in our children’s lives to join us for a Father’s Day Prayer Service, activity and afternoon tea. It is always a lovely opportunity for our children to spend some special time with the important men in their lives and for us, as a school community, to recognise and celebrate the love, guidance and support they provide.

We look forward to welcoming many of you on Friday afternoon and celebrating this special occasion together.

Art Show - next week!

There is a sense of anticipation and excitement from both our staff and students with our Art Show opening next week. The student masterpieces are almost complete! The display boards  this week in readiness to transform our Great Space and our Meeting Space into an Art Gallery. The viewing sessions as follows:

• Tuesday 8th September

Session 1 (Official Opening) - 5.30pm - 6.15pm

Session 2  (Official Opening)   - 6.15pm - 7.00pm

• Wednesday 9th September

Morning session: 8.15am - 8.45am  

Afternoon session: 3.30pm - 4.00pm

• Thursday 10th September

Morning session: 8.15am - 8.45am 

Footy Food & Colours Day

We will celebrate `Footy Day’ on Friday 18th September, with students encouraged to wear colours from any sporting code, however navy blue is strongly encouraged - go Blues!!! A huge thanks to the Parents’ Association for coordinating the `footy lunch’. Please see the PA page of the Newsletter for details on how to place footy food lunch orders.

End of Term Supervision

The final day of term, Friday 18th September, will be an early finish for our students, with students finishing at 1pm. If you require your child to be supervised after this time could you please complete the google form to indicate that your child will require supervision.

MACSSIS Survey

Over the next couple of days, all families will receive an invitation to complete the annual School Improvement Survey. This is your chance to provide anonymous feedback about the school which is used by MACS (Melb. Archdiocese Catholic Schools) to help us make improvements for our community. Your response to the survey is anonymous. However we ask that you send Mrs Dowling a screenshot or a hard copy of your final page (adowling@htws.catholic.edu.au) after you have completed the survey as a way to identify that you would like to be part of the raffle to win a $50 “ANYSTORE” GIFT CARD. This raffle will be drawn at a Friday assembly in the coming weeks. The survey is open until Friday 18th September.

Last chance to buy Catholic Parishes Raffle Tickets

St Jude’s Parish is once again participating in the Combined Catholic Parish Raffle, with funds raised this year supporting refurbishment work at our Parish Church. Families who would like to support the raffle can opt in to receive a book of 10 tickets to sell. Tickets are $2 each ($20 per book), with $1.50 from every ticket sold going directly to St Jude’s Parish.

All raffle books, whether sold or unsold, must be returned to the School by Monday 7th September 2026. Thank you for supporting St Jude’s Parish and this long-standing Parish tradition.

Final Thoughts ~ Happy Father’s Day

I’d like to wish all Fathers, Grandfathers, and all “Father Figures” in our community a very happy Father’s Day on Sunday. May it be a day of celebrating everything you mean to your children, filled with extra love, hugs and kisses; and with any luck it will be a day where you need to do very little!

When my daughter was in Prep (she’s now Yr10!) I received a poem from her as part of my Father’s Day present from school. They are beautiful words that I’d like to share with you, it’s something I reflect on regularly, reminding me of the importance of being a good role model to my children.
