Can you believe this is our final term together? The year has flown by, and it’s been so rewarding to watch our students grow and begin preparing for next year. Term 4 has been full of excitement already, with the School Disco! We were so impressed by everyone’s dance moves and creative costumes! We still have plenty to look forward to, including Comic Con Day and our much-anticipated School Camp. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic way to finish the year!

Wellbeing

This term, our wellbeing focus is on understanding emotions and learning how to keep ourselves and others safe. Students are exploring the different feelings people may experience when they are affected by unkind or hurtful behaviour. We are also introducing the concept of consent, helping students understand that everyone has the right to feel safe and to set personal boundaries. A big part of our learning is knowing when and how to ask for help, especially in tricky situations. These important conversations are helping students build empathy, confidence, and respect for themselves and others.

Writing

We began the term by diving back into narrative writing, focusing on bringing our stories to life through vivid description and thoughtful detail. Students explored their characters in depth, looking closely at their traits, appearance, and actions. We have used fronted adverbials and powerful adjectives to add interest and emotion to our stories. We’ve also been working on explaining why our characters make certain choices, helping students build stronger storylines and extend their writing stamina and imagination.

Maths

This term, students have been strengthening their skills across a range of maths topics. We have been practising the four operations and applying them to different problem-solving situations. Students explored data by creating their own column graphs and even learned how to use Excel to turn their work from paper into digital graphs, a big highlight! We have also been investigating chance, comparing results of experiments with more than two possible outcomes and recording our findings. In measurement, students have been using measuring jugs to explore and compare capacities in litres and millilitres. It’s been wonderful to see their growing confidence and curiosity as they connect maths to real world experiences.

Discovery

This term, we have introduced our new topic, Australia and its Neighbours! Students have been exploring maps to identify Australia’s neighbouring countries, including Indonesia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea, among many others. They have enjoyed discovering the similarities and differences between these countries, from landscapes and climates to cultures and traditions. We have also been learning about natural, constructed, and managed features, helping students understand how people and environments are connected. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they learn more about the world around them.
