What a Spooktacular Term 4 We’ve Had in 1/2!
What a fantastic start to Term 4 here in the 1/2 area! The excitement and enthusiasm from our students have been contagious as we dive into a range of hands-on learning experiences.
In Literacy, we have been listening to and loving our class novel, The BFG by Roald Dahl. The students have been captivated by the adventures of Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant and have enjoyed creating their own drawings of the Blood Bottler and favourite scenes from the story. We have also been linking our reading to our sentence work, using descriptive language to bring our writing to life, just like Roald Dahl does!
In addition, we have been exploring persuasive texts and learning how to express our opinions in writing. Students had great fun stepping into the shoes of the Big Bad Wolf, writing letters to convince everyone that he didn’t mean to blow the houses down, he just had a bad cold and sneezed! The creativity and humour in their writing have been fantastic to see.
In Numeracy, we have been exploring capacity, using informal units to measure and compare different amounts. Through hands-on activities, students have been developing a deeper understanding of measurement and learning how to estimate, compare, and describe capacity in real-life contexts.
We also celebrated Halloween with lots of excitement and laughter! Students arrived in some truly amazing costumes, and we combined the fun of Halloween with our learning in Mathematics by creating Place Value Haunted Houses. Everyone had a blast at our Halloween Disco, where students showed off their best dance moves and enjoyed celebrating together. It was wonderful to see so much joy, creativity, and confidence on the dance floor!
It has been a fun-filled and productive term so far, and we look forward to even more exciting learning opportunities as we continue through Term 4!
