Greetings MSS Community,

My name is Jinu, and I am one of the Social Workers at Melton Specialist School. I work within the Student Engagement Team (SET)—a diverse and dedicated group supporting the wellbeing, engagement, and inclusion of our students.

Celebrating Reconciliation Week 2026

As part of our commitment to promoting respect, understanding, and inclusion, MSS recently celebrated National Reconciliation Week. This important week provided valuable opportunities for students and staff to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contributions.

Classroom Connections

Throughout the week, the SET delivered interactive presentations across the Primary, Middle, and Secondary sections. Together, we explored the meaning of reconciliation and how we can all build respectful relationships and stronger communities. Students jumped into discussions, educational videos, and hands-on activities that encouraged deep learning and cultural understanding.

The Djirri Djirri Art Contest & Gallery Exhibition

One of the major highlights of the week was our Djirri Djirri Art Contest, which invited students to express their understanding of reconciliation through creative artwork. Students explored age-appropriate themes across the school:

• Primary School: "How do you see Djirri Djirri in our school?"
• Middle School: "What does Djirri Djirri mean to you?"

• Secondary School: "How does Djirri Djirri inspire our future and community?"

   

We were thrilled to receive 40 incredible poster entries, each demonstrating creativity, effort, and thoughtful reflection on belonging and community. These pieces were proudly displayed in our Gallery Exhibition for students, staff, and visitors to enjoy.
